The Chevrolet Suburban holds a unique place in the Middle East, proving to be an
indispensable associate in transporting large families over
vast distances, especially during festive and holiday
periods.
The Chevrolet Suburban carries on
the mantle of being a most versatile and capable full-size
SUV. With 73 years of heritage in its genes and over six
decades of being the favourite family mover, the Suburban is
based on GM’s new, full-size SUV architecture, featuring sleek
exterior styling, a sharper, more precise driving feel, more
power with improved, segment-leading fuel economy, increased
interior refinement and improved
quietness.
The Suburban features an efficient
5.3-litre V8 engine with Active Fuel Management
displacement-on-demand fuel-saving technology.
The Gen IV small-block V8 family
offers generous power and is standard on the Suburban. This
Vortec 5.3-litre V8, with 355 horsepower and 504 Nm of torque
on tap, offers Active Fuel Management displacement on demand
fuel-saving technology which seamlessly switches between
eight- and four-cylinder power to save fuel. A Hydra-Matic
4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic
transmission is paired with the engine.
Among the Suburban's key features
is a new 360-degree safety system of occupant protection and
crash-avoidance technology – a system which highlight GM’s
commitment to leading the way in the field of automotive
safety. The vehicle rides on a 3,302 mm wheelbase, which aids
in offering outstanding passenger and cargo capability, while
enabling an exceptionally smooth
ride.
The standard roof-mounted head
curtain air bags include design features that provide
increased rollover protection and occupant containment. These
head curtain side air bags stay inflated longer than air bags
developed only for side impacts, since rollover incidents can
last longer. The deployment duration and other design features
of the air bags combine to provide increased occupant
protection and the ability to help keep occupants inside the
vehicle.
Sensors located at the front of the
vehicle, in the side doors and within the occupant compartment
provide increased and more immediate crash
detection.
Crash avoidance is bolstered
through enhanced design and driver control dynamics, such as
wider front and rear tracks, as well as more responsive
suspensions – including a new coil-over-shock front suspension
design and new rack-and-pinion steering. The Suburban is built
on a stronger and stiffer, fully-boxed frame that contributes
to enhanced crash energy management. The front frame section
has been designed to optimize crush progression, resulting in
improved energy absorption efficiency. The improved crush
performance, enabled by hydroformed frame rails and efficient
chassis component packaging, also comprehends design
provisions for improved vehicle-to-vehicle compatibility in
the event of a frontal impact with a smaller
vehicle.
GM’s famed StabiliTrak stability
control system is standard and incorporates new rollover
mitigation technology. StabiliTrak helps drivers maintain
control during sudden manoeuvres or low traction conditions by
using a comprehensive series of sensors to measure
acceleration, deceleration, steering angle and yaw rate. The
system maintains control by regulating vehicle acceleration or
applying the brakes at any
wheel.
A quiet driving experience is
provided thanks to the intense attention to detail. A stiffer
frame reduces vibrations from seeping into the cabin. Noise
reducing components and materials are used throughout the body
structure, including in the headliner, door seals and
front-of-dash area. The engines feature a quiet tuned
alternator and an acoustically tuned engine cover that reduces
in-cab engine noise. New door seals help reduce seal
“pull-away” at highway speeds, which can cause wind noise.
Also, a sleeker shape, thanks to improved aerodynamics,
streamlined exterior mirrors and roof rack, more steeply raked
windshield and tighter body gap tolerances, assures a quiet
ride.
Suburban’s quietness and smoothness
are complemented by capabilities full-size SUV customers
depend on. Suburban offers a towing capability of up to 3,674
kg.
Suburban wears the familiar
Chevrolet face, with a large Chevy gold bowtie, centered on a
twin-port horizontal grille. The body-colored grille surround
is inset with an argent texture mesh. Fog lamps and headlamps
feature jewel-like optics. The lower fascia, incorporating the
front license plate holder and integrated tow hooks, is
aggressively styled with a skid plate look that enhances
Suburban’s rugged, off-road
appearance.
Reflecting its capability is the
Suburban’s front end styling. The fast-rake windshield; a
bulging power dome hood; a prominent new fender design with
integrated wheel flares; a distinctive new grille and
headlamps; and a full-wrap fascia, all demonstrate that the
Suburban is right up there in the image stakes with the
presence, power and versatility to attract. The wraparound
fascia, which eliminates the conventional bumper-to-body gap,
is one of the numerous attributes that give the Suburban a
more refined look, while also enhancing its
aerodynamics.
Seventeen-inch wheels and tires are
standard, filling the Suburban’s wheelwells to accentuate an
athletic outlook and confident stance. This positive persona
of the Suburban is further accentuated by the extensive range
of exterior colours.
If the exterior exudes dynamism and
style, then it is reflected on the inside with new levels of
refinement, comfort, quality and convenience. A lower
instrument panel along with a deeper windshield that improves
outward vision helps in creating an airy interior. As befits
the Suburban, there is largesse of space for all occupants,
with rear passengers getting enhanced shoulder room. Behind
the first row seats, Suburban offers 3,890.6 litres of cargo
room.
Suburban’s seats are designed to
provide more comfort, additional passenger-carrying
flexibility, and easier entry/egress. Door pillar-mounted
first and second row three-point safety belts facilitate the
slimmer seat designs (second-row, centre position uses an
SUV-typical three-point belt-to-seat design). The front
passenger seat gets 6-way power front passenger seat adjuster
along with manual lumbar adjustment on bench as well as bucket
seats. Comfort has been further improved with firmer foams,
including more aggressive bolsters, an important feature
considering the Suburban is used to travel long distances.
Second-row seats provide 10 mm more legroom and knee room.
Their seatback angle is adjusted an additional two degrees
rearward for extra comfort.
Woodgrain trim is added to the
forward center console and the gauge clusters get brighter
instrument pointers. Furthermore, chrome accents on
instruments and vents along with LED backlighting for the
instruments provide a classy touch. Climate and radio controls
are flush mounted in the center console to create a seamless,
single unit form. Automatic Headlamp Control is now
standard.
Accessibility and capability is
improved with features that include a unique power-release
fold-and-tumble second-row seat and a third-row seat that also
is easily removable. Comfort features include increased seat
travel and seatback angles and an upgraded HVAC system.
Storage capability is improved with the segment’s largest
centre console storage bin, a larger glove box and additional
new storage compartments.
The Suburban also makes available a
remote vehicle starting system; Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist
along with a Rearview Camera System; Touch-screen navigation
and rear-seat DVD entertainment system with larger 8-inch
screen.
