Muscat Oman :The all-new
Chevrolet Captiva sees the opening of a new chapter in the
compact SUV segment, offering Middle Eastern customers a great
driving experience and utmost versatility all in a modern,
sporty design.
Offering one of the best value-for-money vehicles
in the fast growing compact SUV segment, the exciting Captiva
has arrived in Oman recently. With superior ride and handling
qualities it’s also set to offer customers a great driving
experience.
Chevrolet - the company which invented the
SUV concept over 70 years ago with the 1935 Suburban Carryall
- breaks new ground with the Captiva in two respects:The dynamically
styled five-door Captiva is the first compact SUV from Chevrolet
not only for the Middle East but also the global market place.
From the first glance, it's clear that the
versatile Captiva combines all the ruggedness of an SUV with
the stylish lines and characteristics of a mid-size sedan. There
are a number of derivatives in the range, including the LS,
LT and LTZ, each carefully designed to deliver great value
for money. With its compact dimensions, strong, sporty design,
and class leading range of features even in the base model
version, the Captiva has the power to please with a choice
of two engines – 2.4 L and 3.2 L – delivering 136hp and 230hp
respectively.
It is also one of only a handful of compact
SUVs to offer a seven seater version – perfectly tailored not
only for meeting but exceeding the busy lifestyle requirements
of large Middle East families on the move. Customers can choose
between front-wheel and all-wheel drive.
Khalid Samir, Chevrolet's Marketing
Manager for small vehicles in the Middle East, said: "The
Captiva is the first compact SUV in Chevrolet’s range and
is an impressive addition to the Chevrolet line-up in the
region.
The 2007 Captiva follows on from a long SUV
tradition for the bow-tie brand, resulting in a modern and
particularly agile SUV. Packed full of useful added value comfort
and safety features, the Captiva will also hit the mark among
those customers who have the highest expectations of Chevrolet
vehicles.
Captiva has more than enough room to cope
with just about any transportation task thanks to a cavernous
load capacity of 930 litres. Whether friends need help moving
into a new home, or families want to go on a road trip, the
Captiva’s generous and flexible interior dimensions make it
the logical choice. The generous 1,035 mm at the front and
940 mm at the rear project this newcomer to the SUV discipline
to among the best in class. All this within a very compact
exterior frame that's just over 4,600 mm long, 1,850 mm wide
and 1,720 mm high that sits on a wheelbase of 2,705 mm.
The range of standard equipment in the LS
model is very generous. Standard features include power windows
in the front and back, central locking with remote control,
speed-dependant intermittent window screen wipers, a rear wiper,a
black roof-rack, and an AM/FM radio with a tape player and
an optional MP3 function.
The LT is available in combination all-wheel
drive. It includes a four-spoke leather steering wheel, a length-adjustable
steering column, an armrest on the console and the centre tunnel,
fog lamps at the front, an automatically dipping interior mirror
and a net on the floor of the luggage compartment. Its sound
system consists of six speakers, an optional CD player and
an MP3 function.
Irrespective of the equipment level, the
LTZ is always fitted with ESP, automatic level control, 17-inch
wheels and rear park assist.
The all-new Captiva does not compromise on
safety measures, be they passive or active. The vehicle is the
first to offer ground breaking ESP technology, which compares
the driver's intended direction in steering and braking inputs,
to the vehicle's response and also integrates all-speed traction
control. This process senses drive-wheel slip under acceleration
and individually brakes the slipping wheels until control is
regained.
When on a steep incline, Captiva’s Descent
Control System (DCS) can be activated at the press of a button
to automatically slow down the vehicle without the driver needing
to press the brake pedal. This allows the driver to concentrate
entirely on steering the vehicle.
The comprehensive Captiva safety package does
everything it possibly can to reduce the risk of injury to
the occupants should a crash occur. With a head-on impact,
the side members, cross members, and front wheel members distribute
the resultant force over a total of four load paths so that
the interior is subjected to as little deformation as possible.
The front doors are reinforced in the middle and upper regions
to help make the overall structure more rigid. The rigid body
shell structure, made of extra-strength steel, and ESP technology
offers a high level of protection.
The compact SUV segment is the fastest-growing
among the various SUV segments. The proportion of off-road
and SUV vehicles in the overall market has more than doubled
since 1998 and experts predict continued growth.
