Hyundai Motor Co. got off to a strong start
in January with global sales of 205,755 units, up 5.4 percent
over the comparable period last year. Domestic sales were
up 14.8 percent year on year to 45,022 units as strong demand
was seen across the board in both the domestic and overseas
markets as well as across the entire lineup of passenger
cars, SUVs, minivans and commercial vehicles.
Domestic Passenger Cars, Minivans & SUVs
The Azera accounted for nearly a third of Hyundai´s passenger
car sales in January as 8,117 units of the premium sedan
were sold. Total domestic passenger car sales reached 25,673
units, with the Sonata and Elantra claiming second and third
sales spots. Sales of sports utility vehicles were brisk
thanks to the newly launchedSanta Fe. A total of 8,082 SUVs
and minivans were sold in January, up 21 percent over last
year´s opening month. Total passenger car, SUV and minivan
sales touched 33,755 units, up 18.5 percent over the comparable
2005 period.
Domestic Commercial Vehicles
Commercial vehicles sales were up 4.8 percent year on year
to 11,267 units.
Overseas Sales
Export shipments from Hyundai´s three plants reached 96,558
units in January while output at overseas units in USA, Turkey,
India and China continued to gather momentum. Hyundai´s four
overseas manufacturing subsidiaries turned out 64,175 units
in January, up 39.5 percent year on year. Total overseas
sales reached 160,733 units, up 3 percent.
