Hyundai to U.S.CAFE Requirement by 2015

Hyundai
Motor Company confirms it will be
able to meet the proposed U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy
standard of 35 mile s -per-gallon five years ahead of the
federally mandated deadline. Hyundai's roadmap to achieving
the 35 miles per gallon target by 2015 was announced this week
at the North American International Powertrain Conference in Chicago
before an audience of industry peers and federal
regulators.
"We believe we have the engineering resources
and the confidence to reach our target by 2015. Hyundai is determined
to be the industry leader in fuel efficiency," said a senior
Hyundai official. Hyundai's commitment to increasing fuel
efficiency is unsurpassed in the industry. Hyundai stands alone
as the only automaker to support an early implementation of
the proposed U.S. corporate fleet fuel
economy targets, mandated by the U.S. federal
government.
The key to realizing this ambitious goal will be a continuous
refinement of Hyundai's gasoline engines, the introduction of
more sophisticated transmissions, the application of
next-generation hybrids and new technologies like Integrated
Stop and Go. Turbo-charging, gasoline direct injection (GDI),
dual continuously variable valve timing and eight-speed
automatic transmissions are among the other fuel-saving
technologies that will be appli ed
according to vehicle type and size.
Some of the key hardware enablers to Hyundai's confident fuel
economy position will be unveiled on
October 2 in Paris at the Mondial de
L'Automobile and in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show,
including details on Hyundai's new and innovative Hybrid Blue
Drive technology. Earlier this
month, the company confirmed its plans to introduce a Sonata
Hybrid to the U.S. market in
2010.
