Subaru's
much anticipated new generation Legacy has been launched in
Oman recently.
Legacy now in its 5TH generation has been
completely redesigned, and it's larger and roomier inside and
out, including a refreshed power train lineup - 2.0 L and 2.5
L Boxer engines along with Subaru's trademark symmetrical All
Wheel Drive . And the Legacy GT has a 2.5-litre turbocharged
Boxer engine. The new Legacy has been designed to deliver
superb car handling giving; confidence to drivers, space and
comfort to all passengers and enhanced safety & economy.
Legacy is a complete package of safety, power, comfort, space
& style all packed into one – all in all ‘An Ultimate
Driving Experience’.
There's no doubt that the new Subaru
Legacy is really big. The new Subaru Legacy is 4 inches wider,
3 inches taller and 1.4 inches longer, with a wheelbase that's
been increased by more than 3 inches. With the increased
dimensions Legacy migrates to a full sized family sedan
category. It has a completely new profile with arched roofline
and the character creases accentuate the design flows: one
running from the winged chrome grille through the hood to the
front pillars, the other running from the broad headlamps
further defining the front.
Inside, the 2010 Legacy stuns you with a
brand new stylish look. The design includes an upright center
stack with a metallic finish surrounded by vents, while the
audio system is placed high. In the front, close to the
driver's field of vision is a trip computer, and the
instruments are simple with nice round gauges.
The new Legacy comes with three different
engines, the base 2.0 L version with 150 horsepower, 2.5L
version with 167 horsepower and the 2.5GT upgrades to the 265
horsepower version of the 2.5-liter engine. Base models feel
light and nimble, while the 2.5GT comes across as a little bit
heftier, with emphasis in sharp corners. Drive the Legacy into
a corner and yet the suspension maintains grip beyond
expectation; it's tough to upset the sedan's poise in most
conditions. One can experience sensational and seamless
acceleration with the new lineartronic transmission’, which
can be operated with paddle-shifters behind the steering
wheel.
The Legacy's cabin is a revelation; the
front seats provide loads of legroom and have nice, long
cushions, and it's easy to find a comfortable driving position
with the tilt-telescopic wheel adjustment. The space inside
the car ensures a full family travels in comfort. Even the
base models include steering-wheel-mounted audio controls. All
the small conveniences are well represented viz. cup holders,
several center console bins, and map pockets, plus an overhead
console on all models. The trunk is absolutely huge, with a
nice big opening.
Legacy was first launched in 1990 as a
front-wheel drive model with optional 4-wheel drive. It was
larger than previous Subaru models and had a 2.0-liter,
16-valve, turbocharged engine. Since the car represented a new
segment for Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), it wanted to
demonstrate the vehicle’s performance, reliability, and
durability. Thus began the quest for delivering a car which
went on continuously improving its standards, performance and
above all driving comfort with pleasure.
Across the model line, front & side
airbags, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes
with brake assist are all standard. All models also include an
electronic parking brake with an electronically operated Hill
Holder System that aids safe, smooth starts either facing up
or down on steep inclines. Subaru continues to enhance its
renowned excellent safety performance by refining distinctive
technologies and providing confidence and peace of mind to its
customers. Subaru was the only manufacturer to earn a top
safety pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety
for all of it vehicles. While some auto manufacturers were
lamenting the dip in sales during tough economic times,
headquarters of Subaru America were whistling a happy tune.
And they had every reason to do so since Legacy sedan sales
were up 50% over the previous year.
Subaru’s model line up in Oman includes
trendy Impreza which is available in both hatchback and sedan
shapes; the legendary Legacy sedan, the SUV range also has a
spacious station wagon in the Outback followed by the stylish
Forester and the high end fully loaded 7 seater Tribeca. Every
